Le roi Louis XIV au tempérament souverain, est infatigable auprès des nombreuses dames qui se succèdent. Il rencontre Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, jeune personne sans naissance mais un trésor de grâce et de séduction. Le roi s'enflamme au premier regard, et Jeanne-Antoinette se retrouve Marquise de Pompadour, favorite en titre. Malheureusement, leurs tempéraments différents ombragent ce ciel si bleu de ces amours royales. Madame de Pompadour perdra-t-elle le coeur du roi ?
