4BIA is a portmanteau horror flick consisting of 4 horror stories directed by 4 of Thailand’s most talented directors. The first, directed by Yongyoot Thongkongtoon is titled “Happiness” but don’t let the title of the movie mislead you. “Tit For Tat” directed by Paween Purijitpanya (Body) gives a mystically dark and gruesome twist to the meaning of “an Eye for an Eye”. Then there is “In The Middle” directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun (Shutter and Alone) and his teenage tale that totally walks off the Buddhist beaten path and on to a horrifyingly humorous escapade that may leave you laughing more than ‘shuttering’, excuse the pun. Finally “Last Fright” directed by Parkpoom Wongpoom (Shutter, Alone) is a psychological thriller that reminds all of us of the old adage "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” except if you are the ‘other’ woman on the receiving end.

Description: Shake, Rattle & Roll is a Filipino horror film series dating back to 1984. It is currently produced by Regal Films. Most of the series are official entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival with the exception of the sixth installment which premiered in January 1997. The title is solely based on the song of the same name.

This horror film franchise which is currently owned by Regal Films is known to be the only film series in the Philippines with the most movie installments. The first installment was released under the defunct Athena Productions while all the succeeding series are produced by Regal Entertainment. As of 2009, there are eleven installments of the movie series, with the latest being premiered in December 2009.

The first-ever installment of the movie premiered in December 1984 under Athena Productions. It composes of three stories, Baso, Pridyider, and Manananggal. This type of Film series, which involves three stories in one movie paved the way for movies like Regal Shocker (Regal Films), Takbo, Talon, Tili! (Seiko Films), and Magandang Hatinggabi (Star Cinema). This first release is most known for its scarier scenes and suspense-filled drama.

The film is known for its mysterious horror genre, very much dark in context, compared to the succeeding series wherein the horror texture is lighter, and in some series like in Shake, Rattle & Roll 7, comedy progresses in the scenes. Copies of the first installment of the movie series are very rare, since Athena Productions no longer exists.

Actress Janice de Belen starred in an episode of the series in the first four installments.



Three friends, Paolo (Rey Abellana), Girlie (Arlene Muhlach) and Johnny (Joel Torre) decided to play "spirit of the glass" in an old abandoned house. They contact three restless spirits from the Spanish era: Juanito, Ibarra and Isabela. When the glass breaks, the spirits inhabit their bodies and begin reliving these spirits' past. It turns out they all died of a love triangle of their own making. A vow of revenge has now poured onto the present.

Lorna (Charito Solis), her mother, becomes aware of this after seeing chopped human parts inside the refrigerator. Douglas (Herbert Bautista) is a teenager in a faraway province. A manananggal is said to live within the vicinity and is out to eat people. He is given the task by his grandmother (Mary Walter) to kill the creature. Having found a way to prevent it from rejoining to the other half of her body, he must now survive the night to protect his family from the creature's ferocious attacks. This story is one of the most popular and suspenseful episodes of the entire series. Herbert Bautista's role won him the Best Actor award at the 1984 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Synopsis: A team of young interpol agents, Andy, Vanness and Cheung arrives in Hong Kong to produce testimony in a trial against a local crimelord Tiger Duen with local cops Lok and Suet together. Along with many other eligible males from the area, Lu is allocated weaponry and armour, still warm and sticky from the blood of its previous owners, and immediately thrown into battle against local nomadic tribesmen, with minimal training or explanation. Lu is seen attempting to desert and stubbornly refusing to kill anybody, yet after a few words and a forceful hand from his commanding officer, General Zhang (Tou Chunghua), Lu is suddenly slaying people left and right, glaring wild-eyed into bonfires and howling demonically at the moon. At one point he even rescues Zhang from a hostage situation, although, like many key incidents, much of this information is gleaned solely from onscreen captions, which appear sporadically to explain what it is exactly we're looking at onscreen.
