Description:
An excellent minor-key drama about a lonely widower who falls in love with the young mother who lives down the hall. Unfortunately for him, she lives with her brutish boyfriend/pimp, and the more the old man begs her to marry him, the more she allows her boyfriend to degrade her. The creepy quiet of the film, coupled with the on-edge lead performance of Rudolf Wessely, pulls the viewer into the film's dreamlike mood.
