There are currently millions of orphaned children in Russia, many of them waiting in poorly equipped and financed government hostels for a chance at life and the love of a family, and particularly a mother. Out of this heart-breaking scenario, writer Andrei Romounov has written a screenplay which was inspired by a newspaper report of one of these little boys who escaped the clutches of the orphanage directors and went looking for his mother, with only an address of the first home he had been placed in. The Italian (Italianetz) is Official Russian entry for Best Foreign Language Film for 2006 Academy Awards , Official Selection of 2006 Telluride Film Festival & Toronto International Film Festival and winner of 6 international film festival awards.
