SYNOPSIS: When his wife and parents leave for the United States shortly after the Bay of Pigs invasion, 38-year-old playboy Sergio (Sergio Corrieri) resigns himself to a ritual of neurotic self-analysis. From his apartment, he observes the threat of foreign invasion that haunts the hazy, not-so-distant horizon. Bored and unemployed (he owns the apartment building he lives in), he chases after women all over Havana before finally meeting and bedding 16-year-old Elena (Daisy Granados), who he seemingly attempts to mold after his ex-wife by giving the young girl the woman's hand-me-downs. If Alea deliberately likens the virginal Elena to a country that welcomes its own defilement, Sergio's acquittal by the courts (he's accused to raping the girl by her parents) is no doubt indicative of the man's obsession with Cuba's own defilement of its Marxist loyalties.
Underdevelopment refers both to Cuba's political stagnation and Sergio's own sense of false enlightenment. The way Alea pieces together the film must count as its own act of political resistance: documentary footage calls attention to a complex individual-group dialectic tearing up the country from the inside while a series of self-referential, surrealist interruptions are alive with better-than-here hopefulness. "She makes me feel underdevelopment everywhere," says Sergio of Elena before visiting the home of Ernest Hemingway, who according to Sergio killed animals and mounted them on his walls so he wouldn't have to kill himself. One of Alea's most jarring framing devices situates Elena as an exotic specimen ("a beautiful Cuban señorita") trapped beneath the lens of American imperialism. Like Hemingway and Elena herself, it's only a matter of time before Cuba itself would self-destruct.

Una historia personal que hubiera sido intrascendente de no ocurrir en los vertiginosos días de la revolución, cuando todas las contradicciones se pusieron al rojo vivo. La película entrega un monólogo interior con mirada a la calle, como es la novela homónima de Edmundo Desnoes.

Synopsis:
Daniel Calparsoro's Guerreros is set in the Balkans in the wake of the ethnic conflict between the Serbs and the Kosovo Albanians that prompted NATO military intervention in 1999.
A group of young Spanish army engineers is stationed in a Kosovo village to help the Albanians recover from the war's devastation.
The unit is sent on a mission to restore electricity to a small town in hostile territory, but their operation is derailed when they get caught up in the fighting between Serb and Albanian paramilitaries. Struggling to stay neutral, the peacekeepers find themselves fighting for survival as they scamper around the Balkan countryside searching for a way back to headquarters. Their descent into the quagmire of ethnic fighting tests the limits of their idealism and underscores the moral complexities posed by humanitarian intervention.
This polished actioner screened at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival.

Description
With Tenue de Soiree, Blier is once again investigating male insecurity and men's relations with other men. Essentially a remake of Les Valseuses, this film quickly removes the presence of a woman (Monique) to leave the way clear for Bob's seduction of Antoine. A complex film, part crime comedy, part transvestite film, Blier seems to lose his way at the midpoint and the ending seems tacked on. Depardieu and Blanc in particular are excellent, but the script lets them down. A homophobe becomes a fully dressed transsexual in about 90 minutes, hardly realistic and the misogynistic tone of the film can be draining.

Description
Set in Bilbao Spain in the early 80's we meet two teenagers Paco and Urko who deal drugs for living and hag out with Betty a foreign prostitute whom together they share sex and drugs mainly Heroin, Paco also hags out with a Homosexual local artist in secret. Well, the problem begins when Paco and Urko become addicted to Heroin, and not only that, Paco is the son of a sergeant of the Guardia Civil and Urko's dad is a leader of an important political party.

Portrait of the Spanish early 80's. In the tradition of typical underground films at the time, you can see a hidden image of Spain. The image of drug dealers, margined districts, police corruption and complete self governing cities inside the city. After the dead of the dictator Franco, an avalanche of drugs, rock and radical leftist and independentist activism flooded Spain. This transformed certain areas of the main Spanish cities into wild areas. Full of explicit violence and drugs, with a very well selected soundtrack, resembles the total freedom and anarchy atmosphere of that times and places.

When an injured wife murderer takes refuge on a remote Lancashire farm, the owners three children mistakenly believe him to be the Second Coming of Christ.

One of my favourite english films. Beautifully portraying rural Lancashire life in the sixties. The story is touching and marvellously played by all the children involved. One of the few films that can bring a tear to my eye, maybe because it reminds me of the child I once was in the sixties, but probably because it is a moving film and I suspect it would have the same affect on a native New Yorker. One of those old classics that if you haven't seen yet, you will be pleasantly surprised when you get round to it. You can take it as recommended!

Plot:
A seafaring birthday celebration takes a turn for the terrifying when the passengers of a luxury yacht forget to lower the automated ladder before jumping into the ocean for a playful swim. It was a perfect setting for a relaxing weekend at sea, but sometimes even the best-planned trips can take an unexpected turn for the worst. After diving into the ocean and realizing to their horror that they have forgotten to lower the safety ladder, the friends who had set out for a simple weekend getaway realize that they have become helplessly stranded in the middle of the ocean. The sheer sides of the yacht are impossible to climb, and now the group is growing increasingly desperate. As the grim reality of their helpless situation slowly begins to dawn on the doomed friends, hydrophobic Amy (Susan May Pratt) struggles to maintain her composure after realizing that her baby daughter Sarah is helpless and alone aboard the boat. Now treading water as panic begins to set in, the once inseparable friends fast begin to turn on one another as exhaustion begins to set in and the vast ocean threatens to swallow the entire group without a trace.

Description
"Litan" takes place in a strange French town Litan full of masked citizens and off-beat characters. The coffins are flowing in the stream,the cemetery crosses are on the rocks and the funeral orchestra of silver masks is playing some weirdo music. Add also a lot of running and screaming and some bloody murders and you have a winner. "Litan" is a surreal and dreamlike assault on viewer's perception. The script is utterly outlandish as it mixes black humour with some fantasy and horror elements.
